Overview

At North Kew Kindergarten we follow the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework. This Framework identifies learning outcomes to enable children to:

  • Develop a strong sense of identity

  • Connect with and contribute to their world

  • Build a strong sense of wellbeing

  • Become confident and involved learners

  • Become effective communicators.

Philosophy:

  • Our educators respect children’s identity, diversity and culture.

  • We recognise children’s early learning takes place in the context of their family, culture and community.

  • We promote a greater understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of knowing and being and respectfully incorporate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into the program.

  • We understand children are unique individuals who grow and learn in a unique way.

  • We respond sensitively to children’s emotional states.

  • We strive to create an unhurried learning space where children can learn at different rates, in different ways and at different times.

  • We believe learning is an active process that must involve children’s engagement.

  • We believe play is essential in its ability to stimulate and integrate a wide range of children’s intellectual, physical, social and creative abilities (VELYDF)

Principles:

We aim to-

  • Establish respectful, caring relationships with each child and their families.

  • Build and foster partnerships between families and educators

  • Build children’s confidence, sense of wellbeing, safety and willingness to engage in learning ensuring high expectations for each child.

  • Educators respect diversity

  • Educators strive for ongoing learning and reflective practice.

  • Educators use the VELYDF as the learning framework, which guides interactions with children, families and colleagues.

  • Provide a child safe environment with a zero tolerance of child abuse

Child Safe Environment

North Kew Kindergarten is committed to providing a child safe environment which values, respects and cares for children.

We have a zero tolerance of all forms of child abuse and actively promote the cultural safety of children of Aboriginal and linguistically diverse backgrounds, as well as children with disabilities.  Child safety and the ‘child’s voice’ are paramount.
