Overview
At North Kew Kindergarten we follow the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework. This Framework identifies learning outcomes to enable children to:
Develop a strong sense of identity
Connect with and contribute to their world
Build a strong sense of wellbeing
Become confident and involved learners
Become effective communicators.
Philosophy:
At North Kew Kindergarten we…
Respect children’s individuality, identity, diversity, and culture.
Recognise children’s early learning and development takes place in the context of their family, culture, and community.
Promote a greater understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander ways of knowing and being and respectfully incorporate Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander perspectives into the program.
Understand children are unique individuals who grow and learn in a variety of ways.
Respond sensitively to children’s emotional states.
Believe learning is an active process that must involve children’s engagement.
Value play in its ability to stimulate and integrate a wide range of children’s intellectual, physical, social and creative abilities (as outlined in the Victorian Early Years Learning and Development Framework – VEYLDF).
Principles:
At North Kew Kindergarten, educators…
Establish and foster respectful, caring relationships with each child and their families.
Embrace open-ended play that fosters children’s sense of wonder.
Extend children’s knowledge on how to care for themselves, other’s and the world around them.
Build children’s confidence, sense of wellbeing, safety, and willingness to engage in learning ensuring high expectations for each child.
Respect diversity and incorporate diverse perspectives into the everyday routines and program.
Undertake ongoing learning and reflective practice.
Use the VEYLDF to guide interactions with children, families, and colleagues.
Strive to create an unhurried learning space where children can learn at different rates, in different ways and at different times.
Child Safe Environment
North Kew Kindergarten is committed to providing a child safe environment which values, respects and cares for children.
We have a zero tolerance of all forms of child abuse and actively promote the cultural safety of children of Aboriginal and linguistically diverse backgrounds, as well as children with disabilities. Child safety and the ‘child’s voice’ are paramount.
